Links to other sites of interest are provided below. In particular, there are various good places to obtain a free e-book version of this Classic Novel.

One good location to get "Washington Square" is from the FreeLook BookStore "Classics Club", which provides a wide assortment of classical books, including Washington Square and several other novels by Henry James.

Here are some useful links:

Classic Novels And Authors
Another website of mine. This site provides an annotated list of great classic authors and novelists of history (including James), useful as a reference to classic book lovers and students. The authors at this site are either out of print, or their copyrights have expired. Hence, books by these authors are available on the web at no cost, or for very low cost.

FreeLook Bookstore
Friends of mine. The classics club provides an extensive selection of free e-books that are in easy to install and read HTML format. This includes a copy of Washington Square. No cost or obligation. Also includes a nice literary e-zine, and some interesting contemporary e-books for sale.

Literature Network: Washington Square By Henry James.
A nice site for fans of this masterpiece. Includes information on the book, a good synopsis, and user comments and reviews. Plus, you can read the book online (although the formatting of the online version is not overly friendly.) You can enter your own reviews. (Some of these amateur reviews seem a bit harsh for a die-hard fan of the book like myself.)

ClassicNotes: About Washington Square By Henry James.
Outstanding site for indepth analysis, especially at the college level. The site contains a great narrative discussion of book subtext, analysis by chapter, and a forum. You could easily spend several hours digging into this site, especially if you are a big fan of the book. Take the quiz at this site and test your knowledge of the book. (I scored 100% :).

The Modern Library: Washington Square By Henry James.
Another great site for reviews of the book, and a great biography of James. The site includes book excerpt, info about the author, info about the book. The site also includes a great a great reader's guide for academics and students. (For information on the reader's guide, see the "Synopsis" portion of this website...)

Barnes &Nobles: Washington Square By Henry James.
An industry standard website. Contains reviews, info about the book, audio file, library journal, customer reviews, customer ratings, and related books. Not as heavy or detailed as some of the other sites, but always a leader when it comes to the honest art of promotion...

Campusi: Washington Square By Henry James.
A good website for alternatives to some of the info of other promotional websites. The site is a bit brief, but provides nice contrast to some of the other information and useful for drawing distinctions between competing opinions and impressions.

Rotton Tomatoes: Washington Square, The Movie (1997).
My favorite site for movies, we have a good set of reviews and comments on the 1997 adaptation of James's book, including the mandatory filmography for the cast members, reviews, links, and movie ratings. If you are not familiar with this site, you should check it out, because it is the definitive movie website in my opinion.

Rotton Tomatoes: The Heiress, The Movie (1949).
See above. This is actually my favorite adaptation of Washington Square. Although the producer changed the name of the movie to "The Heiress" it is actually a faithful adaptation of James's book that is much truer than the more recent movied (in my opinion.) on the 1997 adaptation of James's book, including the mandatory filmography for the cast members, reviews, links, and movie ratings. If you are not familiar with this site, you should check it out, because it is the definitive movie website in my opinion.

Salon: Washington Square, Movie Review.
A somewhat critical review of the 1997 movie from Salon online magazine. The critic slams Leigh's performance, and doesn't like much else about this move, or the earlier version. The critic makes some good points, but I think some of her points are arguable, such as the fact that the later version is a more faithful reproduction of the James classic. is actually a faithful adaptation of James's book that is much truer than the more recent movied (in my opinion.)

Washington Square Park: Wikipedia Encyclopedia
A good starting point to learn about the history of New York City and Washington Square. Wikipedia never fails to astonish me with regard to its total saliency, and breadth of content. Plenty of jump-off points to continue your research.

Henry James Scholar's Guide To Web Sites
A complete web site, useful for students and fans. This site provides a fair amount of technical information on Henry James, including concordances, e-books, commentary, biographical information. A good resource for digging into the history of James and doing independent research.

Henry James Biography
A solid biographical website. (I've cited them extensively, and included a redacted version of the biography presented at the above link.) The site also includes the most complete chronology of James works I've found, and includes links to other interesting sites.

Fans of Author Ana Jorges
There's no special reason for this link except it's another website I've worked on. Ana Jorges is a fantasy and speculative fiction writer. I know for a fact that she has great reverence for all the works of Henry James....
